I got into mapping and GIS in particular through my geology and environmental science work. I have always enjoyed reading maps from diner place mats to topographic maps. The connections between places, how they relate to each other, and how those connections and relationships are shown on a map has always interested me. I was working full time as a GIS Analyst on a federal contract, where I focused on making interactive webmaps and dashboards to disseminate information rapidly and authoritatively.

In fall 2024, I began graduate school at University of Wisconsin-Madison for a degree in Cartography/GIS. I am currently interested in understanding in what visual properties build or diminish trust in map.
